What Can You Eat for Breakfast on the Belly Fat Diet?

Jorge Cruise's book "The Belly Fat Cure" provides clear direction for cutting out "belly bad" foods that can lead to high blood sugar and weight gain. With several different menus that accommodate a variety of different eating styles, you'll have plenty of breakfast options to choose from. Cruise's book includes several breakfast recipes to prepare, all of which are relatively low in carbs.

Eggs, Cheese and Meat

Cruise's weight loss plan emphasizes egg-heavy dishes for breakfast, a strategy that can lead to increased weight loss, according to a 2008 study published in the "International Journal of Obesity." In the study, subjects who ate eggs for breakfast lost 65 percent more weight during an 8-week period than subjects who ate bagels for their morning meal. Meat and cheese, foods that also induce satiety, are also prominently featured. On this diet, you can choose breakfast items such as a breakfast sandwich prepared with egg, sausage and cheese or a traditional three egg sunny-side breakfast with whole grain English muffins, berries and a side of red potato wedges.

Pancakes and Muffins

Although "The Belly Fat Cure" is a lower-carb diet, you can still enjoy a stack of pancakes or some muffins. The key is preparing them in a way that minimizes the number of carbohydrates in the recipe. For example, Cruise replaces wheat flour with soy flour when preparing pancakes, and uses half and half in lieu of milk. Although the fat content is higher, the carb count remains low. Pancakes are served with butter and sugar-free syrup. Muffins are prepared with soy flour, eggs, butter and water, among other ingredients.

Cereal and Yogurt

One commercially prepared dry cereal that contains flax seeds is permitted on the diet, and is served with berries and almond milk. Oatmeal is also an allowable breakfast, and is served with a side of protein-rich sausage. Cruise recommends a commercial brand of instant oatmeal, but you might get better results eating steel-cut oatmeal, which has less of an effect on insulin levels as it is not as processed as the more common rolled oats. Yogurt is another breakfast option on the diet, and Cruise encourages dieters to make it rich in omega-3 fatty acids by adding fruit-flavored fish oil to provide flavor.

Smoothies and Other Drinks

If you're the type of person who'd rather grab a smoothie or coffee drink than prepare a hearty breakfast, Cruise's diet will accommodate you. You can choose from smoothies prepared with various combinations of sugar-free ice cream, frozen berries, protein powder and nut butter for a fast breakfast. Other options include a shake made with coffee, ice, whey powder and heavy cream and a green tea drink that features many of the same ingredients blended together.
